flamingsword: The word THERAPY in front of a Paul Signac painting (Therapy)
[personal profile] flamingsword
I rolled the die and got 19, so it’s time to acknowledge the stuff I have done lately and make myself be proud of me. When I was a kid, my reward for accomplishing things was mostly reprieve from being nagged about them and sometimes sarcastic praise from my grandmother for doing things she thought were easy but were hard for me, like cleaning a room. I hear other people sometimes got ice cream for a job well done, but such things were never about me, only about having enough money for a short while to pay off bills and have a little extra for luxuries. There may be a reason why my metrics for luxury and money and pride are a little … skewed. Let’s go with skewed.

• I helped [personal profile] numb3r_5ev3n move
• I helped [personal profile] rubyredrose sort through emotionally charged pictures and items without getting lost in nostalgia or having a rough time of it
• I have stuck with doing two 90 minute massages each workday even though it’s still making me tired
• I’ve been doing weekly calls with [personal profile] nyyki for at least three years. She’s not difficult but it is effort to talk on the phone, and I did it so it counts
• I sorted through my closet and shelves and donated three bags of clothes, two and a half boxes of craft supplies, a box of books, and a bag of random items like lapdesks and candles and such
• I sent some scent oils and some melt and pour soaps to Bats former roomie.
• I gave a book on Gnomes to a coworker with kids who are learning to read. She is obsessed with it right now, and it’s adorable. 🥰
• I finished the Disinebriation of Hathor perfume and it came out so good, y’all! It starts fruity and spicy, almost flirty, moves through spices and incense in the drydown, and finishes with the barest lingering cinnamon musk. I can’t wait to smell it on its intended victim. 😈
• I am several steps closer to figuring out what I want from my life, what it will cost me and those around me, and what will get me to a happier place in my life and my selfhood.
• I am less than 20 rows from being done with the body of the hooded duster. (Then I do the front edging, the pockets, fit the sleeves, and sew the buttons in with alternating soft and rough threads to thread-mark which buttons go through which holes, since it’s not for a sighted person. Hopefully all of that gets done before the end of October. I’m so excited to see the finished product!)

So yeah, I have been doing stuff lately and I’m proud of me for it.

A Story, as Requested

In distant ages past, the humans weren't showing deference to Ra, and this bothered the gods, especially the ones who were close associated with him, like Hathor, Sekhmet, and in some tales Tefnut. One of them (or all of them as aspects of each other) got enraged and went to punish the humans for their poor behavior. The most common stories in the north are that it was Hathor or Sekhmet or Hathor in the form of Sekhmet (this gets sort of complex when deity aspects and the shamanic side of Kimetic practice is involved) but she went on a rampage, and the blood flowed like the Nile from her wrath. Ra looked at this and realized that if she was left to rampage there would be no humans left, so he placed in her path large quantities of beer mixed with pomegranate juice. She drank, got drunk, and passed out, and when she woke she wasn't so enraged anymore. The legends centering on Sekhmet sometimes say that this is when Hathor came forth, while some Hatorian versions say that this is when the Sekhmet form of Hathor was manifested. Either way, she was pacified, and some humans were left to live and work. In the south, or Nubia, it was Tefnut, and it was Thoth who diverted her with the pomegranate beer. Followers of the old Egyptian ways drink beer mixed with pomegranate juice on August second as an observance, and I've thought for a long time that bars have missed an opportunity there for another drinking event.

I prefer to think of it as a story of Hathor, but that's my bias showing. Note that Sekhmet is also a healing goddess and one of passion and sexuality -- the Neturu (gods, Netur is god, Neturt is goddess, in case that proves useful at some point) tend to be multi-domain deities.

You know, I forgot a little detail you might find useful. The chant or similar thing, sometimes a statement of the faith, for followers of Sekhmet is "Sa Sakim Sahu" (sah sahkeem sahoo). It means, "Divine spirit fills my whole being". I choose to use Sa Sargah Sahu (the new word pronounced sar ghah), replacing spirit with passion. Nikki Scully used it as a chant in the online class she ran and her book about Sekhmet. I don't know if that's of interest to you, but last night it hit me that I didn't pass that on.
