so last night I read some cards for myself, and it has me spooked. Because I asked about what is going on, and I got the 8 of swords (being trapped, negative experiences) as the card that represents me, the 3 of swords (heartbreak) in the space representing hopes and fears, and THE TOWER as my current problems. And if you're saying to yourself, "isn't The Tower the card that represents destruction, revelation, and cataclysm?", then yeah, it is.

I desperately need to meditate, but I'm so tired that I can't get any kind of clarity on this right now. Time to go put my bug-out bag/shelf together, I guess.

Okay, how about a different interpretation here? Unfortunately, I don't have my spreadsheet up to date, so I can't give what I'd use for a meaning for the eight of swords. The three of swords is about conflict between the heart and the mind. I know so many people read the tower as destruction, but I got a different meaning, thanks to the particular card set I use -- it's a reminder that all things are impermanent, and to expect otherwise is a delusion. I don't know if this helps in the least, but I don't get such a dire reading. Is the eight of swords the one with a body on a slab with swords all around it? If so that's also about impermanence. If it's the one with someone picking up swords it's about the end of conflict.
Ask me for a shells reading when we talk next, and the next time we're proximal remind me and I'll give you a reading of the cards.

We used different terms and interpretations for the card positions -- heart (the question itself), cross (what's in the way), feet (far past), right hand (recent past), head (near future), left hand (far future, then up the staff your relation to the question, source of power, pitfalls or possibilities for strength, then the current outcome.

It's been a while since I used a Celtic Cross -- I prefer a reading style called the Pent of Pents, which I can teach you -- it's both easier to read and also far easier to see the relationships between the cards.
