oldqueersyellatcloud is going surprisingly well, yes. I expected like a dozen people 🤣

I expected like ... about 20 people who knew us to join immediately, and maybe another 5-10 in the first year. This level of success is admittedly a bit intimidating, and that's the trouble with new ventures. Sometimes they fail, true, but sometimes they succeed to the point of making you feel like you're drinking from the fire hose.

It's very humbling that our community needed this, though, and I'm glad we had. the resources to step up for it.

It's also heartening to see how many of us have survived this long, against all odds. One of the reasons why I tend to avoid other queer spaces online is because I'm the oldest person in the room [or one of the oldest people in the room] and the disconnect is real. I remember growing up in the 80s and 90s and how utterly shit-tastic it was to be who and what I am then. But in this comm, there are people even older than me who grew up in even worse times and are, miraculously, still here, even though the world has tried very hard to kill us, and harder still in the very old days. That feels hopeful, even though I am not in any way trying to minimize the struggle.
