flamingsword: “in my defense, I was left unsupervised” (Dark and Wrong)

Friday before last I was introduced to tequila by [livejournal.com profile] jenndoesntblog, and since then when I say that I like the taste of it and look forward to buying some eventually, everyone seems to think that's ominous. Would anyone care to explain why? Answers have been vague . . .

Oh there's nothing wrong with tequila, it peoples' reaction to it that can be a little wrong. Me for example: I'd been drinking for years before I actually got sick drunk or had a hangover. Tequila would be the culprit of that little escapade. It also made me the angriest drunk I've even been... Which means I was being super catty. :3

I've had it since then and it doesn't bother me at all. Of course I never new how to moderate when I was younger and I was trying to drink my neighbor under the table. I still won though. :D

"Real" tequila supposedly has small amounts of a hallucinogen, just as "real" absinthe does. As I recall, it was similarly outlawed.

Really, though, tequila just has a bad rep. It's dusty cantinas full of gunslingers, charros, and banditos. It's the dirty drunk slumped against an adobe wall, hiding under a sombrero. It's what makes all of them so wild and untamed.

Hmm... I somehow don't think this is going to discourage you any. Not that I set out to do that. Ominous. This is a good word. Tequila hangovers are like no other. Call it the other side of the coin. Drink enough of it, and the next morning you'll swear you're undead.

Well, I make kick-ass absinthe, so no not really with the discouraging. And I don't get hangovers. Still don't understand why people think this applies to ME.

Tequila plus "peoples like us"... well results may vary, but they usually range from violently psychotic to OMG! Did I really sleep with them? Twice?

I'm socially acontextual. I don't really care whether something is supposed to work like that or whether something is 'a girl's drink', 'menswear', or 'authentic'. And thus I don't really have a 'people like us' that I apply to myself as a social normative. And why does everyone else think that I'm subject to the out-of-character actions? Most of you have seen me drunk, and I'm just . . . louder. And I talk a little slower.

I think other people have a reaction to alcohol that may not be just a disinhibitor, but that also shuts down specific reasoning processes about future values and consequences of their actions. And I don't get that. And now I feel all awkward and alien again.

My one experience with tequila (not in margaritas) was at a club in Downtown D. The only time anyone has ever bought me a drink was a tequila shot, which ended up being 5 or 6 (I lost count) and from what I was told, I was quite the flirt. Of course, when I got home I was very hysterical crying and screaming and just wanted to be held with no one there to help me out. Surprisingly I remember a lot about the night, even puking in my car.

I have not had tequila (except in margaritas) since. That was the one and only time that I ever got piss drunk.

Many people (see above) have reactions to tequila that they do not have to other alcoholic beverages. I just don't like the taste, so I don't drink it. Then again, I haven't had the opportunity to have *good* tequila.

This was silver Patron, so it was the 'good' tequila. But this is me. I drink to excess once a year or less, and even the one time I was stumbling drunk, I'm still me. Drinking doesn't bring out any hidden'character traits when you don't have any. :\
