Freezing weather and some links
Jan. 15th, 2024 11:40 amSo the weather is currently 17 degrees where I live in suburban Dallas, Texas. Which is some bullshit. These “arctic blast” type winter storms have happened three out of the last four years, instead of every 50 years, like they were before the 1980’s. That’s … that’s not great, y’all. The roads are icy and full of snow, and few people here have all-weather tires and 4 wheel drive, much less snow chains and the necessary know-how for driving in this crap. So lots of businesses are shut down today, including the one I work for.
I wish I could go outside and play in the snow without having it hurt, but honestly my joints have already been aching extra for the last couple days and that’s just from it only being 68*F in the apartment because of trying to conserve power. Which I knew we were going to have to do no matter what ERCOT said, because the people in charge of the Texas energy grid are liars.

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/how-to-stop-people-pleasing - some of what it says is geared toward non-clinically-anxious neurotypical people, but some of the ideas presented are really good. Like: take 48 hours to list all the places in your life where you people please - and all the places that you don’t. That can be helpful information for figuring out why you’re doing it and thus which parts of your self-image may be unrealistic. It’s a clue toward how to fix your headspace and not waste as much effort and time.
