20 fun facts about me!
May. 18th, 2023 08:42 amA friend did a meme, and sometimes I like to be a meme-sheep. Have a thing!
1. When I was little I used to write letters to the Greek Pantheon of gods, and also sometimes to the Roman philosopher Seneca (who I wished could have been my uncle or other not-insane relative). I was a weird, lonely little kid who lived in books more than the real world, and someone was foolish enough to give me Bullfinch's Mythology and access to my aunt's college textbooks.
2. I also used to read dictionaries and encyclopedias for fun, so if you were wondering about my decidedly sesquipedalian vocabulary, now you know. I don't like big words because they help people understand me better or make people think I'm intelligent, those things are counterfactual. I like big words because they are precise and complex and a delight to my senses; they have histories. Rather how some people like wines for those same reasons.
3. I've been medically dead three times, so I guess that's why I'm not afraid of death? Like the first two times I don't remember at all, bc I was tiny, but the last one when I was like 7 was really peaceful? (The drowning part sucked, though, and I don't recommend it. Pool water in your sinuses is very ow.)
4. I have an ordination from the Universal Life Church (since COG was not handing out ordinations in those days), so I can marry people. Of the friend-couples I have married, 3 of the 5 couples are still together. If you don't mind those odds, are within 100 miles of Dallas/Fort Worth, and are a friend of mine, I will drive out to you and officiate at your wedding if you pay me in dark chocolate. That's the deal: I hitch you, you give me chocolate.
5. Despite being old and arthritic, I can still kick higher than my head. Having hypermobile joints sounds like a fun party trick ... until you start getting injured while sleeping bc your body is way more fragile than you remember it being. :T Boo for progressive conditions.
6. I am a Secular Pagan. I don't believe in powers higher than us, but I like living in tune with the earth and with the seasons.
7. I collect perfumes and things to make those out of, and I stim on things that smell good. Feel free to talk to me about that, or about my making you a signature scent - a thing which I enjoy doing, and mostly do for free or for traded favors.
8. I relentlessly over-function in times of high stress. I am definitely someone you want in your corner during a crisis.
9. In D&D parlance I am a level 4 cleric in real life (ignore the 5e rules), and can heal 1 d4 hit points per hour. I am a massage therapy nerd. I love bodywork in so many of it's forms, and I like learning all the things it can do!
10. You know how most things in nature have a bell curve distribution? And how Olympic athletes exist? Well, somebody has to live at the other end of the bell curve. Hi. I have a dozen diagnosed things wrong with me, and probably a couple of undiagnosed things as well.
11. I am either autistic in an ADHD kinda way, ADHD in an autistic kinda way, or possibly have both? But I have so many workarounds and special interests that allow me to blend in better that most neurotypical people can't actually tell until I stop masking. I am still on the fence about ever getting diagnosed as I don't do well with stimulant medication, and there's really no help for being autistic that I can get in Texas unless I am too disabled by it to work. Gotta love capitalism and right to work states. /s
12. I read so much fanfic, y'all. Like, I used to read an average of 5 hours a day, and most of that was fanfic, and I still read at least 2 hours a day, and it's still usually fic. Feel free to rec me stuff, especially fluff and crack-fic and porn. My to-read list is loooong, but I'll get there.
13. I have one husband (Ghost), one boyfriend (Merlin), and one Boston-married spouse. (My friend
rens_sanctuary and I decided that we had been besties for too long to not be family, so once our friendship was a teenager we decided we were married. Our friendship is now 19, so it's an adult! Go Team Us!)
14. My advice, having been a unicorn, is that more than three people's knees and elbows on a queen sized bed is a bad idea so if you want to have foursomes and moresomes: California King or floor sex are the only way to solve that problem unless you have very athletic reflexes. Otherwise you, too, may wind up getting elbowed in the head. Multiple times. In the same night.
15. I make homemade absinthe, with no anise. Yes, it is delicious, and no, I can't ship The Green Fairy across state lines. Sorry.
16. Some people have naturally higher-than-average electrical fields. Like me. I kill watch batteries. Mom makes analog watches run backwards before they die. My skin tarnishes and eats most metals, via the same principle. At least silver seems to be safe, even if gold and tungsten aren't.
17. When I was a kid I would destroy old tree stumps, break apart rocks, carve sticks down to slivers, and be happy as a clam stimming by destroying things. I have such a deep and abiding need to destroy things that I had to turn my gleeful appetites onto non-physical things. It's not as bad as it used to be, but when I was a teen I used to break teachers' abilities to maintain their calm, break people's tiny minds, break school rules and city ordinances and state laws. Even knowing it was a bad idea was not always enough to stop me, either. (I have always wanted to be wise, but I started out at a huge deficit, y'all.)
18. I also like making things! I knit, sew, crochet, mend, bead, embroider, and darn. I bake, brew, cook, extract, and grill. I can build and fix simple machines and slightly more complex huts and survival shelters. I had a friend, once, who was convinced that the end of the world was coming in our lifetimes (I'm not entirely sure she was wrong, tbh) and she wanted to be prepared for what came after. I thought it sounded cool, so I got on that sweet YouTube tutorial train. Now my eyesight and joint hypermobility and arthritis are getting in the way of some of these pastimes, but I know how to explain them to others, if I need to.
19. When I was a kid I used to want to disappear, change my name, and live out my days entirely separate from my family of origin. I couldn't have explained it at the time, but basically what I was looking for was this place. Dreamwidth and it's communities of weirdos for me to pick and choose from, to tend and befriend, to see who I can get along with without people having to meet my family and think that they are the reason why I'm like this. I wanted a community of my peers, and I didn't get to build one of those in real life until about 8 years ago. So, y'know. Thanks.
20. I need to go get packed to go out of town, so I'll see y'all later. ;)

Date: 2023-05-19 02:17 am (UTC)3. I had no idea you've been dead three times. Very glad you're still with us!
5. Yeah, hypermobility is The Suck. I love /s randomly spraining shit doing everyday stuff.
11. I am either autistic in an ADHD kinda way, ADHD in an autistic kinda way - that is a mood.
14. Can concur. la la la
16. Same. WTF? 😂😂😂 Is this like some autistic superpower we have? 🤣
19. Awwwwwwww. -hugs-

Date: 2023-05-19 12:38 pm (UTC)2. I read dictionary entries for fun as a kid, too. And I’m still an etymology nerd.
3. Wow. I’m glad you’re still with us in the corporeal sense!
4. Damn. I paid way more than chocolate for the officiant at my wedding. 😆
7. I’ve enjoyed the tips you’ve given on creating scents. If you have any more pointers, I’d love to hear them!
9. This is a wonderful description and now I want to describe myself in D&D terms, but I’ll have to think about what those terms would be.
11. I’ve read your commentary on how you consciously mask, and that takes a serious amount of energy!
13. Cool.
16. I frequently disrupt remote keyless entry and garage door opener remotes. They’ll work for other people, while I can smash the buttons multiple times and nothing happens.
19. I’m glad you’ve found friends who bring you joy!

Date: 2023-05-20 03:16 am (UTC)Re:keyless entry: you, too, may be emitting an Extremely Low Frequency electromagnetic field. Mine has interacted strangely with the magnetic theft prevention detectors at the entrances to stores, but it’s been a few years since that happened, for which I’m very grateful. I hate those alarms!
Hmm, perfume advice, weird stuff edition? Have you ever held someone’s old jacket up and buried your face in it because you miss them? Smell your day-old clothes after you shower. It helps you understand the natural notes of your skin and how you smell to other people, giving you one more tool to work with. I naturally smell salty like the sea, yeasty kinda like baking bread, and vaguely of buttered popcorn, so I like to pick warm, gourmand notes that carry on and broaden that foodie scent family. Some people like to do contrasting notes that nobody has on their skin, like eucalyptus-type aromatics, or floral notes. However you use that tool, it can be a good way to help you decide which direction to go to build a scent.

Date: 2023-05-22 02:31 am (UTC)As do some places like perfumers apprentice and the like, but those are vile, evil places to your wallet.

Date: 2023-05-20 01:33 am (UTC)7. That's so cool! I collect perfumes too -- I like homemade ones, but if my family members buy me some from a store, I love them as well. I have a tendency to hoard them and forget until they're basically alcohol... oops.
12. I'm like that but instead of reading, I'm writing. XD
19. I still wanna do that, lol. I love my family but I need to be away from them for a while. I don't feel any connection to my birth name at all (and I hate having to go by it in daily life), so I get the changing of name thing too.

Date: 2023-05-20 04:05 am (UTC)Hmmm.... I like peppermint/mint smells in general, baby powder smells, light musky smells. :D Floral scents are okay, but for some reason those smell terrible on me, LMAO. ^_^
