So the hat that I made was in the dryer with some towels on medium heat, trying to shrink it to actually fit a human head. Which it does now … sorta. But I haven’t got the hang of the double knitting in the brim yet, so it came out a cloche instead of a beanie. /o\ My friends on Discord say that the colors are good, at least? I could, in theory, frog it back and re-knit the yarn, but … enh. That thought does not feel appealing. I might keep it, I might send it to my cousin for Yule, we’ll see.
It’s disappointing, but I’m the one who forgot to swatch, AND forgot to go down a needle size to knit the brim, so you know what? We’re going to chalk that one up to “pattern testing” and make another one! :crosses All The Fingers:
This is my process for dealing with things that my brain wants to make big thought spirals:
• Find someone to complain to/process with. Try to keep the complaining to under 3 minutes, or 5 if I’m typing.
• Think for only 5 minutes about what went wrong and how to fix it. Can the thing be fixed? What can you try?
• If not fixed, can it be scrapped and used for parts to do something else with?
• If the thing cannot be fixed or scrapped, can you do something else with it to make it useful?
• If it can’t be useful, can the whole tale be made funny to tell someone else about?
• If it can’t be any of those things, then and only then am I allowed to mope and thought spiral, but usually trying successive rounds of 3-5 minutes spent thinking through each thing gives me back my sense of agency.
I hope that helps if you tend to thought spiral, mope, obsess, or shame spiral, or if you need to get your sense of agency back.

Keto Blueberry Lemon Cheesecake bars for turkey day. I destroyed them. With my face.

Date: 2022-11-29 06:45 am (UTC)I used to do that with my thought spirals, too! I moved on to catching myself right at the triggered stage, with unexpected failure being a big trigger for my self-doubt and learned helplessness. That way I spend my time either fixing something or choosing to allow myself to express feelings, which for me is like learning another form of agency, and I need that after my weird freaking childhood. 🫥😅😅 YMMV of course. Techniques like this are never one-size-fits-all.
