we_are_spc asked me to do another round of the profile interest explaining meme for:

nerdfighter
Really, I can't consider myself much of a Nerdfighter anymore since I no longer watch many of the Vlogbrothers' videos, but their community, dubbed Nerdfighteria, were active in fighting WorldSuck, and still are! For several years I was active on message boards and the subreddit and watched most of the videos by Hank and John Green. It was an edifying and horizon-broadening time for me to have these videos by two dudes who made it their job to be silly, and curious, and responsible, and playful. It was fun, and made me a better human.

problematic faves
I may not still watch Buffy, Harry Potter, or the Cosby Show, because of varying levels of fuckery on the parts of their creators. But I have loved each of these things at their heyday, and their inclusion in my life made me a better person, despite the influence of villainy perpetrated during and after those times. If your fave is problematic, I don't consider it a strike against your character.

I also don't get down on people for what they ship, for their favorite character being a terrible person, or any other thing that happens in fiction. I have a very live and let live attitude about people's relation to canon, ships, fandoms, etc..

verbal Aikido
Aikido is called the way of the peaceful warrior, because it posits that anyone who attains mastery over the self can bring peace out of conflict. I am not a very peaceful person by nature, but I'm trying to attain mastery, and I'm hoping that peace will be one of the side effects. And it would be awesome if I could attain some of that peace while spreading it to others, which is the goal of the verbal form of Aikido. It starts by holding in yourself that your intention is not to fight someone for the sake of hurting them, but to engage in the conflict for the sake of better mutual understanding. I want to be able to turn aside aggression and wear my opponents down from their antagonism, until we can both be humans together.

If your fave is problematic, I don't consider it a strike against your character.
