imoveritanddone and I started a community here in DW for queer folx over the age of 30. And the hardest thing about joining it is reading the rules in the bio and meeting the minimum requirements for us to know you’re not being a bad actor. That’s not a high bar to clear.
And yet.
Some folks still think a comm with a 5-paragraph description in the bio is not serious about the stuff we put in there. They think we, what, came up with those highly specific rules for funsies? To be kings of a tiny fiefdom that we won’t let folks into bc we’re just big poo-poo meanie-heads? I don’t get it. I really don’t.
Or rather, I do. Some people don’t think of themselves as being unsafe to associate with, even though they are more concerned with getting access to a space than they are with proving that they belong there in the first place. They don’t stop to think “hey, do I look like a suspicious character?” or any such considering of the viewpoints of others. And maybe that doesn’t automatically mean that this person is an under-30/‘phobic cishet/doxxer and bad actor but … sometimes people look pretty suspicious. And it’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you.
