Dartagnan says there's jobs to be had. Need one? Got some skills?

Fort God/Prestonwood Baptist Church minister arrested for soliciting sex. From a 13 year old girl. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] luckyckljw!

Coolest bridge in the world (unless you're afraid of heights) is now open for traffic. Too bad it's in Malaysia.

5 Psychology experiments that will depress you, until you realize that humans are capable of defeating tests, once they know the outcomes of previous tests. Having put these poor bastards through it, we can choose not to make the same mistakes, and can redesign ourselves around those user errors. Yay sentience! ROCK ON!!

Concept art dot org- where the really WEIRD kids go to eat paint and color outside the lines.

I wish I agreed with you. But 1) most people haven't read this article, let alone the studies, 2) replace "scientists who say 'We'd prefer if you continued the experiment'" with scientists or soldiers who say 'Do you belong with us, or them?', 3) When 'yours' or 'mine' lives are at stake, people inevitably choose 'yours'. If they don't, the situation ends up demanding 'ours'.

1. But I have. And now you have, too. It always takes a long time for change to work on a society, but thoughts are contagious. If I can change my mind, so can the rest of the world. I'm not saying it's going to happen soon, but eventually it WILL because -
2&3. The yours versus mine game theories have already been pointed out as being inherently flawed. The military and its scientists already know that there's a flaw in the logic that says that it's safe to destroy all of anything. They know that they can't predict the outcomes on a worldwide scale. They also now know that worldwide violence is not economically feasible, so America has been focusing research and development on cooperative system dynamics to create new mathematical and behavioral models, with a probable agenda of showing us how to make ourselves the cultural standard of the world.

If people were dumb enough to keep making the same mistakes repeatedly without changing the system that leaves room for those mistakes, then we wouldn't have OSHA, unions, popular suffrage, or assembly lines. Humans are chaos theory in action, and no amount of study after the fact can map our initial conditions.
