Killstar.com has some cute goth stuff that I want to get, but most of their stuff is fairly expensive. Sadface. Still, a bunch of their summer dresses are on clearance and a couple have bare shoulder cuts with long sleeves, which I do like. But do they have pockets? It’s always important to know.

Thanks for the link to the full interview with Butler. Her work had a profound impact on me and it's so fascinating to see her thoughts now. What a stupid thing the Guardian did. It makes me mistrust them completely.

People do dumb stuff when they are afraid, and it only takes so many believable threats to get them there. I'm not saying you should trust them, just that they are responding to their environment in an understandable way.

As for Killstar, can you see if you have any goth/alternative shops in your area? They may have previous collections for cheap -- I've had some luck finding things to my taste that way (though I'm not super into Killstar as a goth brand so I can't speak for it specifically).

Welcome for the links! The only goth store near me is a mall Hot Topic, sadly. And they don’t tend to have stuff I like in my size, and don’t have great business practices. I guess I should shop around some more, huh?

I just had a thought about finding out if the Killstar dresses have pockets: have you tried looking a clothing hauls on youtube and elseweb?

Thanks for the Abbott link! Amanda Marcotte's so sharp and I'd missed that. It reminds me, actually, of Fred Clark's writing on how white evangelicals et al aren't ignorant when they buy into conspiracy theories, but choosing to believe these things for (bigoted) emotional reasons of their own - which is why explaining the facts doesn't actually seem to help.
