Okay, so I’m not good at understanding people, but I am bad at it in some interesting ways. I have to take a veering approach to a lot of ideas (see also: autistic), so I have to figure out the fundamental pieces of human emotion and ways of relating in conscious ways. The upshot of which is that in some ways I can be more mindful of those things once I get them figured out than neurotypical people who use those things reflexively at the unconscious level. And it’s been an area of interest for me for a long time, studying human systems, so now I’m almost indistinguishable from a NT person from the outside in everyday interactions. And sometimes it provides me unique insights that I get to share with my sociology friends. (Autism can be used as a superpower, provided the right support. Never doubt it.)

I do consider it important for my friends to have my back, but in a way that suits me and my tendency to put too much credence into paranoia when my mental health gets dicey. I need people who can tell me when to slow my roll, who I can trust to not use that power for evil, and who can explain what else might be going on that I am not seeing. I rely on this a lot less than I used to because of meds, but it makes me feel more secure to have a network of people capable of talking me away from the ledges in my own mind. So: thanks, y’all.

And since you ventured down here: The ulcer is doing better, and I am getting less grouchy about it. Huzzah!
