flamingswordMy friend number5ev3n proposed that we write down what we are doing now that we are not having our attention hijacked by a website designed less to provide us content how we want it and more to manipulate us to keep scrolling and provide advertising to us for someone else's gain.
I have been knitting a Gryffindor scarf and worrying about my mom and fussing over her in the hospital.
There is so much fussing, y'all. I rub her feet because she has some rapidly fading nerve pain in her toes and heel. I adjust pillows, call the nurse when she needs something but instinctively doesn't want to "bother anyone" with her pain, even though it is their literal job. I help her find things and bring her things she has cravings for, like candy canes. I help her to the bathroom and scrub her back with a washcloth because it itches.
I figure it is good training for when she is older and physically weaker, and this part of her care I am good at. I am good at patience now, and I am glad that if this had to happen, that it is happening now when I am mentally prepared for taking care of someone, and all of the detail work that takes. I am glad to not be someone who resents other people's helplessness, or who imposes my expectations onto their body.
I have tumblr's social justice community to thank for that, weirdly enough.
