Black Panther is a REVELATION. Go see it!

flamingswordI need to see Black Panther roughly 10,000 more times?! That is a thing that needs to happen. And T'Challa needs to play a much bigger role in my fic. And Shuri. Ramonda is already being Queen Mom to everybody, but now that she is Angela Bassett's grace and poise, she needs to be about 20% cooler.

Killmonger's rage is the rage of all oppressed people at a system which disadvantages and abuses them, and in the twisted way of all well-written villains, he is doing what he thinks is right. He reminds me a lot of Magneto. He has embraced the methods of his oppressors, not realizing that the methods and the ideology are inextricable. He becomes part of the oppression he hates. As Audre Lorde says, the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. When Magneto - canon Jewish man - talks of mutant racial superiority, it is supposed to be a dramatic irony to illustrate his broken ideology. When Killmonger says that the sun will never set on the Wakandan empire it is both a perversion of "Wakanda Forever" and a direct reference to the British imperialism he talks about when you meet him in the museum.
Nakia and T'Challa were so great that I can't even get a grip on where to begin and will just have to see it again ... Darn. Okoye, though. Why no romantic Ayo flirtation? Why shoehorn in a random romance with W'Kabi? I have disappointment. They better get together in the sequel. Ya hear me, Marvel?!
But can we talk about Shuri? I have such a heart!boner for my new favorite Disney princess! BB girl's funny, and they don't make her dumb in order to be funny! She gets shit done, while being basically perfect, and is not damselled! She doesn't let her brother's head get too big to fit through doorways bc he's about to be king, and has social skills in addition to being mechanically intelligent! Finally good representation of what most geniuses I know are actually like. SUCK A LEMON, STARK!
Random stuff: Does Killmonger never plan on having kids? Burning all of that herb ... not cool, man.
(I want some of that stuff for my hips and feet, which are giving me trouble again. 'Tis but to dream.)
Killmonger only has a girlfriend so that he can do something bad to her. I am not sure if I am upset with Coogler for this, or if I think it is a brilliant display of what toxic masculinity does. Killmonger probably thinks he respects women, like most men who abuse women. When the truth is that they don't really respect anyone. AND YOU ARE STILL SAD WHEN HE IS DEFEATED. Rock on Ryan Coogler.
