Year end podcast roundup!
Dec. 25th, 2021 05:50 pmLast year I mostly did Youtube while crafting, but this year I have been binging podcasts while knitting. The good stuff, in my opinion, is worth sharing. Podcasts presented in descending order of importance by how much I've learned from them:
Small Things Often by the Gottman Institute is the free relationship therapy you didn't know you needed. Podcasts are between one and five minutes long, with helpful advice that makes you say, "Oh, duh, I could be doing that!" as often as you say "Ouch?" out loud because the insights are so painfully applicable to your life. Science based, short, and relaxing to listen to.
Want to learn how to have hard conversations, lead a whole-hearted life, hold yourself and others accountable without shaming, and get science based emotions research delivered over the internet? Brené Brown is your fearless leader, and her Unlocking Us series is designed around those things. Stay awkward, brave, and kind, y'all!
The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos is a little on the bougie side, (so feel free to skip her opinions on how hard it is to be rich), but the podcast is also full of positive psychology, the study of happiness and what creates it. Our culture has a lot of messages about what is supposed to make us happy, and well over half of them are myths. So people are doing science about how to live better lives, and we get to change our culture, now that we know how to do better at being happy.
Bad With Money with Gaby Dunn is a good look at how our culture handles money, how we buy into its myths, how capitalism is kinda wack and the specifics of how to avoid some of the pitfalls.
Honorable Mention: Oprah's Super Soul series are technically not something I have been listening to for longer than a week, but so far so good?
