The misinformation susceptibility test was interesting, but seemed somewhat left-biased - most of the nonsense would appeal to right wingers in a US context. It was also very American oriented, in spite of being a British site.

I resorted to Google several times; it's not as if I follow news closely enough to recognize what's actually been covered, so I checked all the never-heard-of-it choices carefully, except those obviously absurd. Two weren't completely checkable - one had a single report, behind a paywall, from a publication I'd never heard of. The other was correct in the direction of a trend, but exaggerated the magnitude significantly. I rated them both as fake news, but apparently one of them was not.

Is it still "fake news" if it runs in (some) media, but seems likely to have been made up by the reporter? What if the reporter is merely incompetent?

These are good questions. I don't have answers to them except that Americans need remedial anti-bullshit education because we are aggressively not taught media literacy in public schools. That's not to say that Britain doesn't have problems with propaganda and fake news, I think most countries do to some extent. Just, as a percentage of the population, my country is doing a lot worse at being misinformed.
