Unfortunate Update

I had an allergic reaction Tuesday to one of those water flavoring squirt bottles, so I have a healing hive in my mouth … and now on Thursday, I used the hotel’s body wash and my face and underarms itch so bad, omg. I just took a Benadryl, a Claritin, and a Dramamine. I’m about to set my alarm and nap away this reaction for a couple-few hours.

[edit to add: I only slept a couple hours, I am much less itchy, and I feel reasonably human right now.]

I think one of the hives in my mouth is trying to turn into a mouth ulcer tho, and fuck that noise.

Sounds like histamine hypersensitivity to me. Envy you I do not.

That sounds scary. I have allergic reactions like that sometimes, too. I've learned recently that the newer generation drugs are better than Benadryl, mostly because they have fewer side effects.

I had heard about Benadryl being an anticholinergic and possibly increasing the risk of dementia, but I wanted to hit this from every direction and rely on drug synergy to tell my system to chill out in language it can’t ignore. Also, that’s what they had for sale at the front desk of the hotel, so 🤷. It seems to have worked, anyway.

This had better not be the first warning signs of getting MCAS, tho. I’m not down with having the Zebra trifecta.

It totally makes sense to me that you did what you did, especially as that what was available. The cautions about Benadryl are more about longterm/chronic use. I'm tiptoeing around the edges of MCAS myself and really don't want to go there.
