Important PSA:

You are not bad inside. You do not make “bad decisions” because there is something fundamentally wrong with you.

And I know that you need to hear that because everyone needs to hear that. Those are shame narratives that kids get taught very young, and as far as I can tell, it’s not cultural, it’s pretty much global. We treat people like the things that are inconvenient about them are enduring traits, and like the things they do that benefit us are temporary decisions, as though other people are constantly on probation with us.

There are very few cultures that accept people as they are and treat each other like they matter. And I think that’s really sad. So I’m going to try to root this whole worldview and its attendant behavior out of myself and build something better. Because I think you deserve better, and I deserve to not have to act like a jailer in a panopticon, like I have to collect evidence and judge other people for things.

It’s a fucked up way to be, and it’s fucking me up, so I’m going to fix it. Luck to all of us.

You're absolutely right. I think people pass on that outlook too, it's insecurity and projection and distrust that they just push on others and say that they must be broken too, because they don't believe in themself, their ability to reflect, or change etc. You're an awesome person. You've got tons of insight and are always growing. Mistakes are what give us the ability to empathize, after all.
