Friday before last I was introduced to tequila by [livejournal.com profile] jenndoesntblog, and since then when I say that I like the taste of it and look forward to buying some eventually, everyone seems to think that's ominous. Would anyone care to explain why? Answers have been vague . . .

"Real" tequila supposedly has small amounts of a hallucinogen, just as "real" absinthe does. As I recall, it was similarly outlawed.

Really, though, tequila just has a bad rep. It's dusty cantinas full of gunslingers, charros, and banditos. It's the dirty drunk slumped against an adobe wall, hiding under a sombrero. It's what makes all of them so wild and untamed.

Hmm... I somehow don't think this is going to discourage you any. Not that I set out to do that. Ominous. This is a good word. Tequila hangovers are like no other. Call it the other side of the coin. Drink enough of it, and the next morning you'll swear you're undead.

Well, I make kick-ass absinthe, so no not really with the discouraging. And I don't get hangovers. Still don't understand why people think this applies to ME.
