We used different terms and interpretations for the card positions -- heart (the question itself), cross (what's in the way), feet (far past), right hand (recent past), head (near future), left hand (far future, then up the staff your relation to the question, source of power, pitfalls or possibilities for strength, then the current outcome.
It's been a while since I used a Celtic Cross -- I prefer a reading style called the Pent of Pents, which I can teach you -- it's both easier to read and also far easier to see the relationships between the cards.
